Rewiring your thoughts -What is the purpose

rewiring your thoughtsSo what and why would you want to rewire your thoughts?

Getting Rid Of Faulty Wiring

In a nutshell, we want to get rid of our negative self talk. But what is that really? Self talk is what we tell ourselves on a regular basis usually stemming from our sub conscious mind. Most of the time we are not even aware that we do it, which is the first step to rewiring our thoughts. We must become consciously aware of what are sub conscious is telling us. Stuff like” I didn’t get that promotion because I wasn’t good enough” or My parents were right when they said I would never amount to anything anyways”

We almost all do it and half the time we do not even realize it! We are going to change that!

Don’t worry with a little practice and daily self awareness this is very doable.

The Analogy Behind It All

Think of your negative thoughts as a string of tangled and broken Christmas lights. In order for you to put them on the tree and make them sparkle and look beautiful you first have to untangle them. So Let’s imagine our negative thoughts as that tangled wire with broken bulbs.

First comes the untangling: This is were we start to pay attention to our millions of thoughts per day.

So let’s get started.rewiring your thoughts

Pay Attention

The easiest and fastest way I have personally found is with a notebook and a pen. Carry it with you throughout the day. Consciously start paying attention to yourself and your mood.

Start writing down anytime you start telling yourself .

“I am not good enough”

I am too heavy I should not have that ice cream”

I am not pretty enough or my figure isn’t slim enough for that outfit”

Anything like that, anything negative.those are just examples. They all have an impact on our self-esteem.

The point of this exercise is only so you can become consciously aware of what our sub-conscious is telling ourselves on a daily basis.

Does not matter if you only come up with one by the end of the day, it is a start and it does take a little practice to do.

Untangling

As we start to become aware of our self talk, the effect on us starts to change as well. Whereas before it might have put us in a moodier place. But now as we start unraveling and untangling. We begin to feel light and like that string of Christmas lights we are able to once again move around a little better, a little freer.

Remember no need to rush we are not on any time limit or schedule, sometimes it will take time to untangle our thoughts after all like those Christmas lights they have been in storage for at least a season sometimes longer.

It is however a very important step, we can not fix those broken bulbs until we have the room to do so.

Then we can start to repair or rewire our thoughts to sparkle.

Only The Beginning

In the next few posts I will be going over some other ways in which to rewire your thoughts.

I like to look at negative self talk like a bad habit, and like all habits bad or good it takes time.

Scientifically they say at least twenty-one days for a habit to form whether bad or good.

Please pat yourself on the back for a job well done. This is one of the first steps toward transforming yourself into a more positive and worthy you!

A little treat for taking the first step and thought.

  1. Hi Cathy,
Love your analogy. Many will relate because that’s what happens, it gets all tangled up.
Like you said we are not even aware of what we are saying to ourselves. It can be quite an eye opener when we do become aware.
I love your gentle manner. No rush or schedule for learning, even if only one thought they discover about themselves is great.
    Love your writing style.
Keep shining those Christmas lights. 🙂

    Di 🙂

    • Thank you I was kinda doubting the Christmas light analogy but my own little voice said yes.
      Glad I listened to myself

  2. You’re right on how important it is to realize our negative self talk and do our best to change it to positive! Great article.

  3. That inner voice is with us all and seems to run in the counterproductive mode almost all of the time. I was once told how difficult it is to increase self-esteem and I found that it takes a lot of time and effort. The write down negative thoughts tip is a great way to bring awareness as to that self talk, the inner voice we all have. Great article! Thank you!

    • Yes by way of writing it down makes us more self aware of our own thoughts,

  4. What a great article. I honestly need to start bringing a pen and a small notebook with me everywhere I go. I would love to be rid of the negativity I feel at times. Letting it all out is a good way to do so.

    • Thank you yes sometimes all it takes is just a notebook and a pen..or even your smartphone now a days just something to jot it down with

  5. I love this post. As a personal trainer, I talk to my clients about their mindset on a regular basis. Your mindset is where it all begins and you succeed or fail all due to your mindset. If you get rid of those subconscious negative thoughts then you will and can succeed in anything you set your mind to. Great article 🙂

    • Thank you coming from a personal trainer is a hugh compliment that i dont take lightly.Even if I can help just one person then it is worth it.

  6. This is really wonderful and pychological, this is my main problem being always negative about my life and also welcoming failure I think I need to work on my thought and take charge, thanks for this article
