So the analogy of the past lesson was that our thoughts were like a big mass of tangled Christmas lights. You know the ones that we only take out once a season, if that. Sometimes they stay tucked away for years because we just don’t want to be bothered with untangling them. Even when we know how pretty they well be if we took the time. Now that we have started the process of untangling them. It is time to start replacing the bulbs.

Replacing The Bulbs – Negative with Positive

Now before we get into this I want to stress that there is absolutely no time limit, nor is there a right or wrong order in which to do this. This is your transformation it is for you personally to grow. You have to also do this FOR YOU not anybody else.

Alright so the last post you learned that you have to become aware of your self talk. One of the best ways I have personally found, as I am a visual person, is to write them down as soon as you become aware of them. It can be anything negative we tell ourselves daily. This does take a little practice so do not get discouraged.

Another example – You are in a hurry and you end up spilling your coffee. The first thing you say whether out loud or to yourself, is that you are clumsy. That my friend is a negative statement, write it down. Coupled with some examples from my previous post I think you get the idea.

Now that you have the list we are going to start replacing those thoughts. Like that tangled string of lights we are going to replace the burnt out bulbs with bright new ones.

Take your list and read over it. What could you have said differently. I want you to think of a positive statement instead.

An example Negative- Nothing in my day is going is right. Positive statement instead – I am grateful I was able to work today.

Stop and Think

When you start to think about your negative self talk and you start replacing those thoughts with more positive ones like that string of lights. Before you know it you will have a new string of Christmas lights for your tree. In other words a new transformation a better you.

In doing so you are telling the universe what you want. The Law Of Attraction states that what you focus on is what the universe will give you. Like a magnet if you focus on negative we seem to attract more negative. If we focus on positive however we start to attract more positive. Even our thoughts contribute to this universal law. It is a shift even it is a small one at first, it is a shift in what we are going to be attracting into our lives.

You could be successful, healthy, and happy. What are you waiting for?

Affirmations They Do Work

Now that we have become more aware of our negative self talk and we are starting to replace them with a more positive way. I want to talk to you about affirmations. You might have heard about affirmations, but have never tried them. Now is a great time. Affirmations simply stated are a means of emotional support or encouragement that we can visually use in our every day life. Wikipedia states that affirmations refer primarily to the practice of positive thinking and self-empowerment—fostering a belief that “a positive mental attitude supported by affirmations will achieve success in anything. More specifically, an affirmation is a carefully formatted statement that should be repeated to one’s self and written down frequently. For affirmations to be effective, it is said that they need to be present tense, positive, personal and specific.

I do disagree with the statement that it is new age however for the fact that this practice as been around for decades if not centuries in one form or another,



Technique- Affirmations

Go buy yourself some post it notes or stickies. I want you to write down your own affirmations. The act of writing them down is a way to bring action. Action creates positivity and forward movement. Take your list you started earlier and again for every negative thought you had written down write a positive thought. Try using what are known as “feeling”words. ie.grateful or happy, adore. Words such as confident. “I am confident in my abilities”.

Take the post it notes and play around with different sayings. Positive sayings. Try to make them personal to yourself as you will be seeing and saying them a lot.

    • Yes it is a process and does not happen overnight.After all most of our negative self talk we learned since we were children. Wether we realize it or not.Thank you for reading and for the compliment it is appreciated.

    You are absolutely right! It’s all about a positive mindset. My self-talk never ends, even when I really try to get rid of it and focus on the present moment in a positive way. I should try your idea with a sticky notes.

    • Yes and with a positive attitude like that you are sure to keep moving in an upward direction. It is an ongoing process for sure. I will have more tips and techniques as I write.

  3. Interesting post. Most of us are not aware of our self-talk. I was shocked when I became aware of how many judgemental thoughts pop into my mind on any given day. Meditation can be a great tool for awareness.

    • Yes it can be quite shocking. Myself included when I was first becoming aware. All the sayings I didn’t like as a child I realized I kept saying them to myself as I got older. So I started my own transformation.

  4. Hi, I like the topic like this. I have been think the thoughts of mind influence a person’s mood, behavior, and decisions. Everybody has negative thinking and positive thinking, how to keep a positive mind and positive view is very important

    • Absolutely are thoughts not only influence mood and behavior but also our health. Negative thinking as such an impact on the body in a bad way.The good news is that with a positive attitude and thoughts are overall health benefits also.

  6. Hey, what a great post. I positively believe in affirmations. About ten years ago I desperately needed my life turning around. I used affirmations seriously every day without fail. It did take about four years to accomplish what I dreamed of using affirmations. So, like you say it’s not overnight… takes patience and dedication. I think smaller challenges can be overcome in much less time with repetitive .positive thought.
    I love your list of feeling words. Great article!

    • I too can attest to the use of affirmations in my own life personally. They do work. Will be delving more into those in the next few posts.I am glad you liked the feeling words I try to give folks tools that they can actually use. Feel free to print them out or write them down.
